Seasons Greetings
Team Collies and its handlers wish everyone a Merry Christmas as well as a Happy New Year. May you continue to make those memories with your pups no matter what it is you do with them.
We are about to wrap up another year of our adventures with the pups and have had a lot of fun working with them in a few different sports. The pups competed in 25 AKC agility trials, 1 CPE Agility trial, 7 rally trials, and 7 fastcat trials. Caryl also did a little work with Deeks in the Confirmation ring. We attended our Collie Nationals Illinois where Gibbs competed in agility, Gibbs, Ellie, Deeks, and Ziva competed in Rally and Deeks showed in Confirmation.
Ziva
Caryl and I had talked about Ziva and her ability to compete in rally and decided as long as she wanted to work in the rally ring we would let her. Well she was our star and ended up earning her Intermediate title by the end of April Q'ing in every trial she was entered in. We entered her another trial in June in advanced to see how she would do since she now had a jump and the courses required more skils. She went out on the course and made a great effort but there were too many sits which she struggles with. We decided it was time to end her career 11 years and just let her play and think she was still doing her job. Ziva competed in just 10 rally trials with 8 of them being in 2024.
Deeks
Caryls Journey with Deeks is just starting but has been a fun and exciting trip so far. There is nothing he is not willing to do and so far he has shown he picks everything up quick. In agility, Caryl has been running him in preferred at a lower jump height for training and experience. She was running with a toy for a while but realized he was more interested in running so she stopped carrying it. She kept in in Novice even though he had earned his Standard, Jumpers, and Fast titles. She will be moving him to his normal jump height for 2025. Deeks also competed in 6 rally trials earning both his Novice and Intermediate Titles. Deeks ran 16 6uns in Fastcat earning his BCAT title and having a best time of 24.04 MPH.
Ellie
I decided to try Ellie in a trial ring again since she has always ran great in class and practice. It has been an exciting and promising journey with her. We have high hopes she will run competitively again but right now it is to keep it fun and enter and exit the ring happy. I only run her a few runs a trial to avoid stressing her. We did enter her in the Cluster which is a very large and sressful event and she did great. I am hoping perhaps next year we will get back on the competive track but do not plan to rush it. Ellie did very well in Rally as well. She competed in 12 runs and qualifed in 9 of them. She also earned Novice and Intermediate Titles. She also earned her first leg in Advanced at the Cluster. Ellie has done great in fastcat and earned her BCAT title as well. Her personal best is 22.09 MPH and I do think she has a little more in her yet.
Gibbs
Gibbs has had a great year, sure we get a day where he refuses a jump or the teeter but he continues to come back and do them afterward. We will never get a lot of points during a run but he will bring in the Q's This year we earned 11 double Q's with 4 of them being triple Q's. He earned 5 Titles in Agility and 2 in Rally, his Novice and Intermediate title. He has also earned his first Advanced leg. We were also given the very special honor of being awarded the Levi Good Sportsman award at one of our CPE trials this year. To say this is a very special honor would not express how special this award is to us. Gibbs has a heart of gold and wants to do nothing but please us. He has overcome so many setbacks and still wants to go in the ring and have fun. He ows me nothing but as long as he wants to play in the ring, we will.
